Is it really my voice?
Yes. We create an AI narration voice based on your recording, designed to capture your natural sound, accent and speaking style. Before we produce your audiobook, you'll hear a free sample from your own book so you can decide whether it sounds right to you.
What if I would rather not use my own voice?
Then pick one of ours instead and there is nothing for you to record. You can hear them all at squireworks.com/audiobook-voices. The price is the same either way, and you still get a free sample from your own book first.
What do I have to record?
Start with a minute or two of yourself reading aloud in a quiet room, using the best microphone you have. We'll check the recording and let you know if we need more. For your full audiobook, we'll typically ask for about ten minutes of clean audio. An existing recording may work too.
How much does it cost, and when do I pay?
$199 for the complete audiobook, whatever its length, in your own voice or one of our narrators. Nothing is paid up front. You hear a free sample and approve it, we produce the whole audiobook, you listen to the finished book, and only then, once you're happy with it, do you pay.
What do I get?
Every chapter, narrated and automatically checked against your manuscript, delivered as downloadable audio files, one per chapter (MP3 at 192 kbps or WAV, 44.1 kHz), with levels evened out across the book. You own the finished audiobook outright: no royalties, no subscription, no exclusivity.
How long does it take?
Your free sample usually arrives within a few days of your recording and manuscript. The full audiobook takes about a week after you approve the sample.
What if something sounds wrong?
Tell us. Mispronunciations, missing or repeated words, odd pauses and similar production errors are fixed free for 60 days after delivery.
Where can I sell the finished audiobook?
Anywhere that accepts it. You own the files and keep everything you make: sell directly to your readers, from your own website, or through platforms that accept AI narration. Spotify accepts AI-narrated audiobooks, with a box you tick at upload to disclose digital narration. Audible, through standard ACX submissions, currently restricts third-party AI narration. Store rules change, so check each platform's current requirements before you publish.
What happens to my recording and manuscript?
We use your recordings and manuscript only to produce your audiobook. Your voice is never offered to other customers or added to a public voice library. We use trusted audio-processing providers to help produce your book. We delete the voice models and recordings we control after the 60-day correction period, or earlier on request. Third-party providers may have separate retention requirements.
Can it do different character voices?
Yes. Your audiobook uses one narrator throughout, with natural expression and dialogue. If you'd like, we can also give individual characters distinct speaking styles - deeper, softer, faster, or slower, much like a traditional audiobook narrator. This is optional, and we'll let you hear the character performances in your sample before producing the full book. We don't use separate narrators for different characters.
